Twice a year, from 2015 to 2019 BAX | Brooklyn Arts Exchange provided a home for Dance To The People to curate weekly donation based classes, inviting teachers to develop a particular technique, or answer specific movement questions, hence making the learning space a collective laboratory.
This series was geared towards the professional development of dance teachers and as a means to offer affordable dance classes to a wide community of dance lovers and movers.
By offering a collective alternative in the exchange of knowledge in the dance/arts community, Dance to the People mirrored BAX’s commitment to challenge the manifestations of whiteness, able-bodiedness and privilege through anti-oppression, and pro-inclusion work.
