We will begin class with a short-improvised investigation. We will then move onto specific floor-work routines, set to counts of 8, investigating the head-tail, and core-distal, relationships. This first, “warm-up”, section of class will end with a few strengthening, body-weight, exercises.

For the second section, we will spend some time with various improvisational exercises that travel us through space. Distinctions between boney and muscular movement, as well as variations in speed and levels, will be emphasized.

Class will accumulate into a final, pre-crafted, contemporary dance phrase. We will spend the bulk of our time with this section, focusing on invigorating ourselves to perform distinctive movements that are clear, musical, challenging, precise, and vivacious.

Participants do not need to be trained dancers, but should have some sort of regular physical practice.

About Ainesh

Ainesh Madan has danced in new works by David Dorfman, Wally Cardona, Sally
Silvers, Parijat Desai, KT Neihoff, Anne Zuerner, Talli Jackson, Abha Roy, and is
currently a part of RoseAnne Spradlin’s latest work. He has performed repertory by
Bill T. Jones/ Arnie Zane, Trisha Brown and Zvi Goetheiner. Ainesh’s choreographic
work has been presented at venues in USA, Austria and India. He has experience
teaching at Gibney through their Access8 program. He has also taught in Bangalore
(India) as a guest faculty at Lourde Vijay’s Dance Studio, Shiamak Davar’s Institue
for the Performing Arts and Shoonya - Centre for Art and Somatic Practices

This series is geared towards the professional development of dance teachers and as a means to offer affordable dance classes to a wide community of dance lovers and movers.
