Class Description
My teaching combines different elements from my modern dance training. I use principles and exercises from Graham technique, to reinforce the center and opening of the body. I also use general ideas and exercises from my Butoh training for the fluid quality of movement and the use of the body as a material. The class is internal, and experimental. I want to  encourage participants to move the body without the control of the mind, let the body speak for itself, using the history of the body more than history of the mind.
  
Experience required of participants
No experience or previous dance training needed.

Goals for participants
Develop improvisation skills, fluidity of movement, strengthening center. Students will work on internal listening of their body and how to move from this listening. Reinforcing the center, to get more control of their movements.

Goal for the teacher
I will be working on my ability to communicate my ideas and images. I will also work on my choreography, as I am starting to develop my own movement language. I would like to share it with participants, and go further with developing those movement phrases.

About Charlotte
Originally from Paris, Charlotte arrived in New York in 2011, after graduating from the Sorbonne University and training in a professional contemporary dance school. In September 2012, she joined the Martha Graham School of Contemporary dance. Since September 2014, she has danced for several artists, including Australian contemporary artist Linda Tegg and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) theater teacher and director Caleb Hammond. In October 2014, Charlotte signed a contract as a dancer with Asha Dance Company and has been working with Sidra Bell Dance Company, and LEIMAY since 2015.

about this series
We've asked teachers to bring something that they're working on, something they're intrigued about, to present it to the community and see how can we make it work together. At the end of every class there will be a time to debrief and discuss the material and strategies used to present it.
