Contemporary / Flow is a movement class where students are guided through meditation, technique, and choreography. We will start class with a somatic warm up and work through the joints starting with the feet to the hands, then move to center adagio and allegro work and travel across the floor following a traditional modern technique class. We will emphasize the use of breath as a movement catalyst and the feeling of weightedness in the limbs. Dancers will practice performance quality with phrase work at the end of class.

About Ixchel
Ixchel Mendez is a dance artist, mover and maker currently living in Brooklyn, NY. She studied dance at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Ixchel is passionate about movement as a way of true expression. Inspired by Dance Theater, her work encompasses the whole picture from choreography, costumes to the sets which she designs and creates herself. She strives to create a fantasy though dance and performance that she can share with her dancers and audiences.

This series is geared towards the professional development of dance teachers and as a means to offer affordable dance classes to a wide community of dance lovers and movers.
