Class Description
Through group movement, song, and text we will explore "the flop." This is a term use in theatrical clowning when your best laid plans to go pot. Things go wrong and you're screwed. What is our reaction and how can we use honesty and context to be mindful and make the appropriate decision. 

Experience required of participants
This workshop is for teachers and performers (actors and dancers) interested in forming a more honest, vulnerable and powerful connection to their audience.

Goals for participants
Noticing when you try to cover up mistakes. We usually sail right through these moments to avoid embarrassment or a loss of status. Start to acknowledge these moments. 

Goals for the teacher
I'm working on finding the right balance of structure and play for the group I'm working with. I teach direct theater with actors of all ages. What is the right balance for these different groups? I prefer to leave lots of room for exploration, but am keeping an eye on my inclination to leave too much room for this.

About Billy
Billy Schultz is a New York based comedic actor and director. He has performed at the Guggenheim Museum, Webster Hall, and at theater festivals around the USA and Europe. He has studied with Nikolai Terentiev, Orlando Pabotoy, John Towsen, and Norman Taylor and collaborated with hundreds of physical comedy practitioners. He is currently developing a dance and comedy video series entitled Dance Move Daily, which you can check out on FB. about this series
We've asked teachers to bring something that they're working on, something they're intrigued about, to present it to the community and see how can we make it work together. At the end of every class there will be a time to debrief and discuss the material and strategies used to present it.
