Brianna is inspired by movement in the moment. The practice of improvisation while walking down the street or jamming on the dance floor. Brianna’s classes combine aspects of her varied movement background and improvisational practices. Utilizing concepts from contemporary release techniques, in conjunction with movement information from her study of West African dance, students will connect with ways to safely release excess tension in the body, while accessing strength from the ground up to balance gravity and levity. Brianna fuses somatic approaches inspired by Bartenieff Fundamentals, yoga and tai chi to focus on details of alignment and spaciousness inside the body. Classes will include floor work, standing combinations and larger locomotive phrases that move in and out of the floor, attuning to details while expanding range of motion and deepening breath into movement. Improvisational prompts and imagery are used to access delight, play, flavor and style. Be prepared to dig in, get down, get playful, and leave sweaty! 

Open to intermediate/advanced dancers.

About Brianna
Brianna Taylor is a Brooklyn based dance artist and educator. Her work explores intersections between movement, language, sound and objects, and actively investigates the practice of improvisation. Taylor is the founder and artistic director of Confluence Performance Project, a multi-disciplinary performance group. In NYC she collaborates with Melanie Greene, and performs with Rachel Thorne-Germond and Rebecca Lloyd Jones. She is a member of the multi-media experimental performance ensembleCollapss based in Greensboro, is a former company member of Onye Ozuzu's Skeleton Dance Project and The Mensah brothers West African dance ensemble Logo Ligi, and has performed with many independent choreographers around the United States and in Ghana, West Africa. Taylor taught as an adjunct professor at several North Carolina universities, and currently teaches yoga and dance to students of all ages around NYC. She holds an MFA in Choreography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a B.A. in Dance from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
