Contemporary Forms

Class description
Intense contemporary class largely based on our body's interaction with the earth and the space around itself. Warm-up techniques are focused on ways stay grounded in the lower body to free up the torso and extremities for full expressive purposes. Cardio-based arm warm-ups in a deep contemporary plié free up the joints to facilitate the fullest range of movement in order to prepare for precisely detailed choreography. These warm ups are specifically designed to prepare the body for the intricacies of viscerally connective movement. We will explore our relationship to the floor in a series of exercises designed to force the body to think differently about how to absorb its weight down into the ground safely to facilitate consistency in fluidity when attempting to rise and fall from the floor. A bit of improv will be prompted to enhance the awareness of tactility. A challenging phrase of movement is taught using my distinct choreographic language, encouraging all to show their purest form of artistry to cultivate their understanding of mind-body-spirit connections.
