Improvising Improvising with ALEX ROMANIA Sept 17, Sept 24, Oct 1, Oct 8 6:30-9pm
Each day we researched the relationship between preparation and action. Utilizing somatics, bodywork, partnering, durational tasks, and speaking scores, we will explore how we become available to the unknown. Through these potentially disorienting practices, we will observe how the states we find ourselves in impact our improvising. We will embrace duration as an opportunity for actions and time to change how we inhabit our bodies, observing distortion as a result of durational activity, but also as a strategy to alter our presence and choice-making in scores as a way to endure through time.
Negotiation will become a central question to our improvising as we examine our resistance and availability to these changes -- misdirecting, redirecting or softening into them. These physical practices will prepare our mind-bodies, and from here we will consider moments around performance, examining performance that is prepared for, performance that we suddenly find ourselves in, and the relationship between the two. Through group and solo scores, we will negotiate within ourselves -- our preferences, our pleasures, our discomforts, our tendencies, and our ability to stumble.
All are welcome, no dance experience necessary, just an interest in performance and a curiosity for movement.
